JoDoo Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the JoDoo mobile app, published by New Leaf Software, LLC, handles your information.

The short version: JoDoo has no accounts, and New Leaf Software collects nothing about you. Your lists live on your own device. The one exception is the optional sharing feature — if you turn it on, the lists you choose to share are stored on a sync server that you run, because New Leaf Software does not operate one. The rest of this page explains exactly what that means.

Information we collect

None. New Leaf Software does not collect, receive, store, or process any personal information from JoDoo users.

JoDoo has no sign-up, no login, and no user accounts. It never asks for your name, email address, phone number, or any other identifier. It contains no analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, advertising, or third-party tracking libraries of any kind. We have no way to identify you, count you, or contact you, and we do not attempt to.

Your lists

Everything you enter into JoDoo — to-do lists, tasks, descriptions, due dates, shopping items, and the item suggestions the app learns as you type — is stored in a database file on your own device. It stays on your device. It is not uploaded to New Leaf Software, and we cannot see it.

Uninstalling JoDoo removes that database and the lists in it.

Device permissions

JoDoo requests a single Android permission, INTERNET, and uses it only for the optional list sharing described below. If you never share a list, JoDoo makes no network connections. The app requests no access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone, photos, files, or any other sensitive data or hardware.

Optional list sharing

JoDoo can sync a list between devices so that two or more people can work from the same list. This feature is off unless you turn it on, and it works as follows.

New Leaf Software does not operate a server. We run no JoDoo sync service, public or private. There is no New Leaf server for your lists to be sent to, and we have no technical means of receiving, reading, or storing your list data.

Sharing requires a server you provide. JoDoo does not ship with a sync server address configured. If you want to share lists with other people, you or someone you trust must run a JoDoo sync server — the server software is open source under the MIT license — and enter its address and access key in the app's settings. Until you do that, JoDoo never contacts any server, and every feature except sharing works normally.

Shared list data is stored on that server. This is the point of the feature and you should be clear about it before using it. When you share a list, the contents of that list — its name and all of its tasks or shopping items, including any descriptions, due dates, quantities, and completion states — are transmitted to the server you configured and stored there. They are not merely passed through. Storing the list is what allows several people on different devices to open, see, and edit the same list and have their changes reach each other.

What the server holds. For each shared list, the server stores its share key, name, contents, a version number, and the time it was last updated. It stores no user accounts, names, email addresses, or device identifiers, because JoDoo never sends any — the server has no idea who its users are. A shared list is deleted from the server automatically after thirty days with no update.

Only shared lists are sent. Lists you have not explicitly shared never leave your device.

Who can see a shared list. Anyone holding a list's twenty-character share key can read and edit that list. Treat a share key like a password: give it only to people you intend to share the list with. You can stop sharing a list at any point from within the app.

Your responsibility for the server. Because you choose the sync server, the handling of shared list data on that server is governed by whoever operates it. If you run your own server, that is you. New Leaf Software has no access to it and no control over it. We recommend running the sync server behind HTTPS so that list contents are encrypted in transit.

Third parties

JoDoo contains no third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking software. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, because we do not have any. No data is transferred to third parties by the app.

Children's privacy

JoDoo is a general-audience list app. It does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13, because it does not collect personal information at all.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, and delete personal information a company holds about you. New Leaf Software holds no personal information about JoDoo users, so there is nothing for us to disclose or delete. You control your own list data directly: edit or delete lists in the app, stop sharing a list to remove it from the sync server, or uninstall the app to remove its local database.

Changes to this policy

If JoDoo's data practices change, we will update this page and revise the date at the top. Material changes will be reflected here before the version of the app that makes them is released.
